White “Pinots”
The pinot family of varietals exists because of the grape’s propensity to mutate. The two varietals that are used to make white wines are pinot blanc and pinot gris (named after its grayish-pink skin). Pinot gris is better known by its Italian name, pinot grigio, and is widely planted in northern Italy. Pinot Blanc produces crisp, aromatic wines that tend toward a lean style in Alsace, but display ripe, tropical characteristics in New World growing regions, as in this example from Oregon.

Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is the best-known varietal in the pinot family and produces what are arguably some of the most complex and incredible wines in the world. Pinot noir is a notorious grape because it is difficlut to grow and a challenge to make. It is, however, one of the most expressive examples of “terroir,” with site playing a tremendous role in the flavor profile of the final wine.

Lake County
This AVA (American Viticultural Area) is located north of Napa Valley and is an up and coming winegrowing region. Several prominent Napa Valley vintners have planted vineyards in the area and are crafting extraordinary wines. Our “Kew Double Ewe” Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vineyard owned by legendary grower, Andy Beckstoffer, and is made by celebrated winemaker, Paul Hobbs. These selected wines from Lake County offer incredible balance and a fruit-forward palate.
